Professor Bob Bowie
Bob’s keynote will be on the role of RE in education for sustainability and climate change.
Professor of Religion and Worldviews Education at the University of Canterbury and Director of NICER, a University Research Centre focussed in Christianity and education. His areas of research include Religious Education, Human Rights Education, Christian education leading projects such as the Texts and Teachers project, Science Religion Encounters in the Classroom, and co-leading Faith in the Nexus. He also contributes to Worldviews education debates. He is a trustee of the International Symposium for Religion, Education and Values (ISREV) and also a trustee for Culham St Gabriels Trust. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Beliefs and Values, the British Journal of Religious Education and the International Journal for Christianity and Education. Bob is also a non executive board member of the Association of University Lecturers in Religion and Education. He has also published several textbooks for Religious Studies with Oxford University Press and written numerous articles in many different publications.
Deborah Weston OBE
Deborah’s keynote will be on Raising the profile of RE in your school.
Deborah is an adviser for RE and is an experienced teacher and trainer who worked in a large inner-city comprehensive school as Director of Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development. Deborah advises four local authorities regularly; supporting classroom practitioners as well as middle and senior leaders. She is the research officer of NATRE, a trustee for Culham St Gabriel’s Trust, Company Secretary of the RE Council, and the Chair of the RE Policy Unit for NATRE, the REC, and RE Today. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list of 2016.
